HOMEWORK

READING

Reading homework is the priority in Year 2.  Reading and discussing books are great ways to improve reading fluency and comprehension skills.  You could talk about vocabulary, key events and the characters' feelings and motivations, as well as asking retrieval questions.  The children bring home a book each day to read aloud to an adult.  We recommend they read for around 10 minutes, at least four times a week. While working on our phonics reading scheme, children are asked to read their book twice before choosing a new one. This promotes fluency and confidence.

Once children complete the phonics scheme, they move on to the Accelerated Reading program and can complete a quiz each time they finish their book.  Here is the link:

HOMEWORK

After half-term of the Autumn Term, children will bring home a weekly list of spellings to practise.

MATHS

Children are encouraged to use the White Rose One Minute maths app to promote fluency in a range of number skills.

Later in the year, children will have individual logins for TT Rockstars; an app which helps them to become fluent with times tables.  Their logins will be at the front of their planner. The children will be set a TT Rockstars 'session' of 15 minutes to complete each week.
