Reading homework is ongoing on a daily basis. Reading daily and discussing the texts, such as recapping the key points, characters, new vocabulary and making predictions, are great ways to improve reading fluency and comprehension skills. The children bring home a book each day to read aloud to an adult. We recommend they read for around 10-15 minutes, at least four times a week. At this stage children are expected to read their book at home twice before changing their book. This promotes fluency and confidence.
Once children are on the Accelerated reading program they can complete a quiz on Accelerated Reader each time they finish their book. Here is the link:
After half-term of the Autumn Term children will bring home, on Fridays, a list of spellings to practise. These will be tested the following Friday.
Children are encouraged to use the White Rose One Minute maths app to practise fluency of a range of number skills. This app is free and can be downloaded.
Later in the year children will have individual logins for TT Rockstars; an app which helps them to become fluent with times tables. Their logins will be at the front of their planner. The children will be set a TT Rockstars 'session' of 15 minutes to complete each week.
The children will need to bring
- Wellies or a change of shoes-to keep at school
- Water bottle
- Snack if you wish
- 20p for toast/ 40p for apple or orange juice if you wish (or pay for the week on a Monday)
- Packed lunch if needed
- Coat/ hat/ gloves etc as needed for the weather
- Planner and reading book
- Spelling book on Fridays
Please don’t bring any toys or ‘show and tell’ items, etc.
Please make sure you name everything, and we will do our best to get it all back to you!
