PE
Children should come to school in their PE kit on their PE days. Our PE days are Mondays and swimming will take place on Wednesdays. Your child will need:
- PE shorts or plain joggers/ leggings
- PE T-shirt
- School jumper/ cardigan
- Trainers that the child can fasten independently
- Long hair will need to be tied up on PE days, and earrings removed
- A swimming kit will be needed for the days the children swim on, including a swimming costume/shorts and a towel. Children can also bring goggles and/or a swimming cap.
HOMEWORK
READING
As a school, we believe that reading is fundamental to a child’s development; it provides them with the opportunity to learn new things and explore their imagination.
We continue to use the Accelerated Reader program and your child should have a book which falls within their ZPD (zone of proximal development). This can be found at the front of their planner.
It is really important that children read a minimum of 4 times a week for 15-20 minutes and discuss texts with adults where possible, in order to help them develop their ability to analyse, infer, deduct, explain, and evaluate what they are reading. Please ensure that planners are used to record your child’s reading every time they read so that they can be checked on a Friday. An example would be, ‘Read pages 11-15 to Dad’.
TIMES TABLE ROCKSTARS
Children will be set weekly sessions of 15 minutes on Times Tables Rockstars.
MULTIPLICATION TABLES CHECK (MTC)
Your child(ren) will complete a Multiplication Tables Check (MTC) in June 2023. The purpose of the MTC is to determine whether pupils can recall their times tables fluently, which is essential for future success in mathematics.
In order for your child to become fluent in their times tables and prepare for this check, they should complete at least 15 minutes of times table practise each week.
SPELLING
In class, we follow a spelling scheme called “Spelling Shed”. This will involve specific spelling lessons each week. The children will be given spellings every Friday which will be tested on the following Friday.
CLASS ESSENTIALS
The children will need to bring:
- Outdoor shoes/ wellies to wear on the field on wet days
- Water bottle
- Snack, if needed
- Packed lunch, if needed
- Appropriate clothing depending on the weather
Please make sure everything your child brings into school is labelled in order for lost items to be found and re-homed as easy as possible.
