P.E. will take place on Monday and Tuesday so please ensure your child has the appropriate kit. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed or covered with a plaster.
In Key Stage 2, children are expected to be reading for enjoyment with greater independence. Therefore, pupils are expected to read at home at least 3-4 times a week; this will be monitored during planner checks. It is still important for children to read to an adult, even if they are fluent readers. This will develop their comprehension skills.
They will also participate in daily guided reading sessions to develop a broad range of reading skills.
The children will now receive a list of spellings to learn at home each Thursday, they will be tested on these spellings the following Wednesday, so again please try to practise these at home with your child on a regular basis.
Times tables are a highly important aspect of mathematics, requiring a great deal of support at home as well as at school. At the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x, and from this year, they will be formally tested on these around the end of the academic year.
The children are expected to play 10 sessions on 'garage' which will be set on a Monday and due to be completed by the following Monday.
We encourage all the children to bring in a bottle of water for drinking during lessons. They can fill this in the classroom/water fountain and they are stored next to our sink.
Please ensure your child's PE kit stays in school at all times as we will occasionally do additional sessions which require PE kit.
The first 4 weeks
The first four weeks in Wolf Class have been the greatest time at school. We have done daily mile, swimming and P.E for our exercise.
We have a new acting Head Teacher called Mrs Fielding she is a lovely headteacher. Mrs Fielding and Mr Horrocks (our teacher) thought of some new rewards for the classes in the school. We were the first class to try out the new system to see if they would work.
Our favourite subjects are: English, Maths and TT Rockstars. In English, we do loads of description and writing, sometimes we write our descriptions in our books with partners. We also do Maths in our book. We always start with fluency then we go onto reasoning and do the A.P.E with in. A.P.E stands for answer it, prove it and explain it. With the A.P.E, we also do problem solving. When we do TT Rockstars, we get a sheet of paper and it has times tables on and we get three minutes to answer sixty questions.
Our Class is Amazing
During the first four weeks in Wolf Class, we got to see each other again. On the first morning, we did Roman Numerals in maths. We learnt a lot in that lesson, here is an example of 375 in Roman Numerals CCCLXXV.
We have a new acting Head Teacher called Mrs Fielding, she’s lovely. Mrs Fielding has introduced a new reward system called Class Dojos, there’s also the upside-down traffic lights - green, amber and red.
So far, I’m enjoying the year because my teacher is one of the best teachers I’ve ever had. His name is Mr Horrocks he’s very nice; I have a feeling this is going to be a good year!
