Please find below some information about the learning that is happening in Class 5. For more information, please find our termly 'Class Newsletter' below.
In English, we will be reading the novel 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll and basing our writing on it. We will begin our writing journey by studying the features of and writing informal letters. Check our Twitter page to see some examples of the wonderful writing we produce over the term.
We will also have three set guided reading sessions each week, when we will read a range of extracts from a wide variety of genres and authors, focussing on refining key reading skills.
This term, our topic will be World War 2. We will be learning all about World War 2 and what it was like to live through a war. Our art topic will be linked to this as we will be studying and painting in the style of L.S. Lowry.
P.E. will take place on Wednesday and Thursday and your children are required to come into school wearing their P.E. kit with a school jumper/cardigan on top. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed or covered with a plaster.
Children are expected to read at home at least 4 times a week which will be monitored during planner checks. It is still important for children to read to an adult, even if they are fluent readers. This will develop their comprehension skills.
Children will also participate in three specific guided reading sessions a week to develop a broad range of reading skills. These sessions will be based on a range of different genres.
Children will receive a list of spellings on Friday, and they will be tested on these spellings on the following Friday. These will be based on the spelling patterns and spellings lists from the National Curriculum. Please encourage your child to practise these regularly.
Times tables are a highly important aspect of mathematics, requiring a great deal of support at home as well as at school. At the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x.
Children will be set weekly activities via TT Rockstars or Sumdog (their login details are in their planners) which they are expected to complete.
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle into school every day.
Planners are expected to be brought into school on a Friday so that homework can be checked and new spellings can be handed out and glued in. If your child has not completed their weekly homework, they will complete this during their breaktime.
If you do have any questions at all, please do not hesitate to call the school office to arrange a telephone appointment or email the class email address: email@example.com
