Miss Clark - Teacher
Mrs Easton - Teaching Assistant and PPA cover
In English this term, we will be reading the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar. We will be studying the features of various genres and writing our own versions based on the text, including: setting and character descriptions, story narratives and non-chronological reports.
Our topic this term is the Revolting Romans. We will be learning about the Roman Empire and its impact on Britain. We will also be studying Roman mosaics in art and experimenting with printing techniques.
P.E. will take place on Wednesday and Friday and your children are required to come into school wearing their P.E. kit with a school jumper/cardigan on top. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed or covered with a plaster.
Children are expected to read at home at least 4 times a week which will be monitored during planner checks. It is still important for children to read to an adult, even if they are fluent readers. This will develop their comprehension skills.
Children will also participate in specific guided reading sessions to develop a broad range of reading skills.
Children will receive a list of spellings on a Monday and they will be tested on these spellings on the Friday, so again please try to practise these at home with your child on a regular basis.
Times tables are a highly important aspect of mathematics, requiring a great deal of support at home as well as at school. At the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x.
Children will be set weekly activities via TT Rockstars (their login details are in their planners) which they are expected to complete. These may either be games in the 'Studio' or 'Battles' between classes/groups.
Please ensure your child brings a water bottle into school every day.
Planners will be sent home every Monday and they are expected to be handed back in to your child's class teacher on a Friday. This is so we can monitor your child's reading.
