P.E. will take place on Tuesday and Thursday, so please ensure your child has the appropriate kit. Long hair must be tied back and earrings removed or covered with a plaster.
In Key Stage 2, children are expected to be reading for enjoyment with greater independence. Therefore, pupils are expected to read at home at least 3-4 times a week; this will be monitored during planner checks. It is still important for children to read to an adult, even if they are fluent readers. This will develop their comprehension skills. Additional guidance for challenging comprehension questions to ask your child has been sent home but please ask if you would like another copy.
They will also participate in daily guided reading sessions to develop a broad range of reading skills.
The majority of children in the class receive a list of spellings to learn at home each Monday. They will be tested on these spellings the following Monday, so again please try to practise these at home with your child on a regular basis.
Where children are working on individual spelling targets through our Lexia program, they are expected to complete a minimum of 10 minutes of this at home each week instead of spending time preparing for a spelling test.
Times tables are a highly important aspect of mathematics, requiring a great deal of support at home as well as at school. At the end of Year 4, children are expected to know all of their times tables up to 12x12. This will be tested at the end of Year 4 in a national test. We therefore try to develop confidence in times tables throughout Year 3.
The children are expected to play 10 sessions on 'garage' which will be set on a Friday and due to be completed by the following Friday.
We encourage all the children to bring in a bottle of water for drinking during lessons. They can fill this in the classroom/water fountain and they are stored at the back of the classroom.
Please ensure your child's PE kit stays in school at all times as we will occasionally do additional sessions which require PE kit.
If you have old, unused clothing available that your child could use as an art shirt, we would also really appreciate these being sent into school to protect their uniforms.
